Not so far from the truth. I got an "Above" rating as a C1 and am really disappointed with my increase. It's not low enough for me to leave this year, but next year will be a different story unless I manage to jump C3 straight to M1.
Within my "network" lots of people are really unhappy with their pay-rises, I get the impression that there will be quite a few leavers within the coming months.

What was your % increase? I know the focus has been on promotion rather than pay rises this year.

Just so you know - I know of C3s with Above and SA ratings who havent moved to M1 and are quite upset, and most likely to leave. So for C1s/C2s hoping to skip one level and move to M1 are really going to have their work cut out as there is a growing backlog of deserving C3s waiting to move up.
As ACN grows, the change in levels becomes all the more difficult. All the best tho!

Aces - Yes, will definitely be challenging to go from C2 to M1. I'm depending on a few factors to help me:
- My rating gets better e.g. as a C2 I obtain a SA/VT
- The C3/C4s that missed out marginally in Sept 11 get March 12 promotion
- The C3/C4/C5s that are annoyed do leave
- Managers that are never going to hit SM level are managed out of the business, creating greater demand for M level
I'm sure the above makes me sound very selfish, but this is what I need to happen in order for the performance process to work for me.
Tommys - £46K is pretty much spot on (+/- £500). I would have thought lower for a new C2 with a CW rating.

Not just about rating, need to get strong support from the project too! They might be reluctant if they've got a backlog of people to promote...

Can you specify to what bit of the above your question refers?
If it's structure then yes it's the same. Accenture operate with the same Consulting structure globally (technology or strategy).
The levels are:
- Analyst 1,2
- Consultant 1,2,3
- Manager 1,2,3
- Senior Manager 1,2,3
- Senior Executive
The numbers next to level indicate average time-periods at level, although I am unsure of whether the Senior Manager figures are correct. The further you move up the pyramid, the harder it becomes. To move from A2 to C1 is considered extremely easy, from C3 - M1 a little harder, and then up it becomes increasingly difficult as there are a lot of quality M3s & SM3s fighting it out for few top spots.
With regard to salary, it differs slightly depending what area you're in and the demand of your particular market/skill set. Experienced hires sometimes need to be lured in with higher salaries, as they will usually be brought in under level. Generally speaking there's probably a maximum of £5K variance between people at the same level up to Manager. Beyond that I have no idea, but would have thought it depends heavily on your revenue figures.

I second that - project support, project continuity and total team strength play a big role in the move up. Members of a team delivering critical projects and performing extremely well will usually expect a jump especially those at A2/A3 or C2/C3 and more often than not, most will not get what they want as that's just how the process works.
There are a lot of people knocking at the door after putting in an excellent performance but somewhere within the entire process ACN follows (the laddering system and rating) deserving candidates do not get what they should which is why there is a lot of attrition
Guess that's how the cookie crumbles....not fair but not much can be done

I was a c2 going to c3 and got 4% with an above rating. What a joke. Not sure what is going on but this seems to be the trend across the firm in London. Goodbye ACN.

Really? A 4% pay rise is enough to make you leave? It'll only be a year and you should be M1 with the massive jump that it entails.

No longer guaranteed to move from C3 to M1 in a year - there are many C4s these days and the queue system is building up, heard there are a lot of disgruntled C3s this year who dint make it - all down to where and which client account you work for so not in your hands really

I'm pleased to say I'm looking very likely to jump from C2 straight to M1. I'd like to ask a generic promotion/salary question that I'm sure someone here would be able to assist with.
My current salary is around £46K which I feel is at the bottom end of a C2 scale. If I was fortunate enough to get to M1 in Sept, would they look at current salary + X% or would current salary be irrelevant and I would go to whatever salary was associated with M1 and the Rating I obtain?
The reason I ask is that I've heard M1 starting salary is £67K + car + bonus but my current base salary would need to increase by almost 50% for me to hit this. My hope is that current salary is ignored and the new salary is based on competence and the fact if employees don't receive adequate remuneration they'll look elsewhere.
Any clarification gratefully received.

there is no way you can move from c2 to M1 in current climate!
unless you have done something amazing and got new sales. there is a huge backlog of c4 or even c5 waiting to be promoted.

Recently both previous salary and promotion rating seem to have been ignored and everyone I know has ended up on the same M1 base point salary.

Ah OK, that works in my favour if I manage to get the promotion in Sept. As tommys so eloquently pointed it, it's a tough market and nothing is guaranteed. I'll check back in and let you know a) if I get it and b) what my salary uplift is.

i am a c2 as well in consulting so talking from what i see around me and what i am getting told from management. With ACN you know how laddering works. its more about who u know, rather than the role.

In US, the average increase for c3 was 3% with above aveage rating. Lots of people didn't get what they expected in terms of promotion, so it seems like that was the trend in other regions aswell.
