Our Role

Projects are commissioned by the SSE Executive Management Team and Business Unit MD's to support and implement strategic transformational change in their business areas.

As Change and Delivery Manager, you will be accountable for defining and delivering large, complex, strategic change projects across the SSE Group. Typical assignments include developing and implementing business unit operating models, governance structures and business transformation programmes. You may also be involved in business separation or business integration programmes as well as defining business improvement programmes to address specific performance issues.

Sponsors are likely to be members of the SSE Executive Team, and you will lead and support the business change implementation, acting as a single point of contact for senior stakeholders, facilitating relationships between them and managing expectations. This will involve ensuring that stakeholders understand the need for change, the available options, the analysis and decisions being made, and are committed to deliver it for their part of SSE.

You will form and lead the programme team from project design through to implementation and delivery, taking full accountability for the definition, documentation and successful completion of complex programmes/large projects (typically 6-12 months).

Your Skills and Experience

As a highly experienced Senior Programme Delivery Manager, you will have a strong understanding of business change and improvement with full programme life-cycle experience from design to delivery and post-implementation review. You will be resourceful, with the ability to work autonomously with only high-level direction and adept at prioritising work to meet tight deadlines.

As well as exemplary programme delivery skills, the role requires sound strategic business and change management knowledge and excellent stakeholder management skills gained through extensive experience working with Executive and Senior Leaders in a large, complex organisation (FTSE 100 or equivalent). Additionally, in this role you will be required to identify business performance issues and recommend business improvement projects to senior stakeholders. You will have a high degree of political awareness and be highly skilled in influencing up to Director level.

Educated to degree level and preferably with a MBA or equivalent, you must be commercially aware. Sound financial and budgetary management knowledge is also vital to enable you to develop strong business cases and manage programme budgets and benefits. Understanding of IT architecture and IT project cycles is useful however, we are definitely looking for a candidate with a strategic and business programme background, rather than IT programme management experience.

Strategic change management and business improvement knowledge including operating models, will be crucial to your success, as will the ability to structure and analyse business problems, grounding analysis with quantitative and qualitative evidence.

You must have relevant practitioner qualifications in Project/Programme Management or similar level of continuous improvement experience would be advantageous.
