History
Towers Watson was founded in January 2010 by the merger of the consulting firms Watson Wyatt Worldwide and Towers Perrin. By revenue, it is the largest employee-benefits consultancy in the world. The company is led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Haley, the former CEO of Watson Wyatt, and Chief Operating Officer, President and Deputy Chairman Mark Mactas, who previously served as CEO of Towers Perrin.
The two companies succeeded by Towers Watson each have a long history. R. Watson & Sons was originally established in the UK in 1878, while The Wyatt Company was founded in 1946 in the U.S. The two companies formally merged in 2005, but formed a global alliance a decade before the merger. Meanwhile, Towers, Perrin, Forster & Crosby was founded in 1934 and shortened its name to Towers Perrin in 1987.
In November 2010, Towers Watson signed an agreement to acquire a leading international actuarial and risk services company EMB, and completed the deal in Febuary 2011.
