History

BearingPoint has a very long history. It was originally established in 1997 as a distinct consulting services arm of KPMG, a company that dates back to the 1870s. The consultancy went public in February 2001 as KPMG Consulting LLC. The company soon acquired several of KPMG's country consulting arms as well as consulting units from Arthur Andersen's business consulting arms, and it was renamed to BearingPoint in October 2002.

Ever since the post-bankruptcy management buyout in August 2009, BearingPoint has been run by the company's European management team and organized as a partnership. In Australia, BearingPoint is an independent consulting company run by the former senior executives of BearingPoint's Australian arm, BearingPoint Australia Pty. Ltd.
